Preparing for Croatia

Well we on our way to Croatia for a 21 day bike tour.  Besides the normal traveling stuff of making travel arrangements an packing we have to also get the bike there.  As you can see the bike is rather large.  Shipping a normal tandem can cost a small fortune and can often result in a damaged frame.  But this is a special Tandem.  Notice the six silver couplers on each of the frame.  Unlock the couplers and the bike fits in two suitcases.  It sounds simple enough if you say it fast.

 After about 3 hours of tear-down we are almost ready to go.  One case hold the middle section and the 2 wheels, the other case holds the front and rear section.  All that remains is to pack clothes and other things around the bike to protect it (and keep the number of bags down.  Of course we have to be careful to keep the weight of each bag below the 50 pound limit. With these 2 bags and our carry on we are ready for a month of travel.
